Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Question

Answer

What is a delta exam and why are they important?  As ServiceNow products continually advance, you too will want to learn, apply, and master the new capabilities. Delta exams help keep your skills, knowledge, certifications, and accreditations current.
What is a Mainline certification?  A Mainline certification proves your technical knowledge and skills utilizing the Now Platform. Exams are proctored, technical in nature, and cover major products of the ServiceNow platform. Mainline certifications may encompass a knowledge check, a practical application assessment, or both. Passing periodic non-proctored delta maintenance exams is a requirement to maintain the mainline credential.
What is an accreditation (Delivery, Pre-Sales, Sales)?

A Delivery Accreditation is a type of technical credential that offers the ability to prove your knowledge on technical products that are emerging into the market. An accreditation is earned after completing a short non-proctored exam in ServiceNow University. Additional information on the Delivery Accreditations ServiceNow offers can be found here

Sales & Pre-sales accreditation offerings have been designed to provide you with the latest content to successfully sell, position, and validate ServiceNow solutions. The training can vary and may include an exam. More information can be found here

What is changing?

ServiceNow is moving to an annual delta exam for mainline certifications (prior to 2023 this was a bi-annual requirement). There will be no deltas for the Utah release. The next delta exam will be required for Vancouver in late 2023.

Delivery Accreditations were introduced for the first time with our Tokyo release. However, there is no delta exam for Delivery Accreditations.

Why is it changing?  We have made this change due to feedback received from our learners. Your feedback has always been immensely valuable to us!  As more and more of you gain more than one credential, and as ServiceNow’s release cycles become more varied, the effort and outcome of bi-annual certification maintenance no longer meets the need of re-engaging the community.
What delta exams and accreditations are changing specifically?  Mainline certification delta exams and Delivery Accreditation delta exams.
What is NOT changing?  Mainline certification exams will continue to be updated with every ServiceNow product release. In addition, there will be no change to our Certification Maintenance Program (CMP).
Will I be able to take the annual exam in the 2nd half of the year if there is no exam in the 1st half? Yes! Release content is updated and available as usual for you to stay up to date. However, delta exams will not be offered in the first release of the year moving forward.
Will the delta now cover two releases?  The delta exam may now cover multiple releases. Information about delta exam expectations will be provided closer to the Vancouver Release. Refer to the Training and Certification Release Dates for more information.

Will the delta still be based on release notes?

No, content can span multiple resources.

What is changing other than moving from 2 times a year to one time per year?

There will be study guides available for each exam (format, location, etc. TBD).
Will Delta exams continue to be 1 - 10 questions? No, it is 6 - 20 items per exam.
I hold a mainline certification. What do I need to do?  There is no action on your part with the Utah release. You will not have to complete any delta exams. We do encourage you to review the product documentation for Utah to learn about the new features and changes.
What about Delivery Accreditations?  There is no delta exam for Delivery Accreditations.
What about Sales and Pre-Sales Accreditations?  For the Utah and Vancouver Releases, there are no changes to the sales and pre-sales delta requirements
Are there changes to the Certification Maintenance Program fee?  The Certification Maintenance Program has not changed. The annual fee to remain current in our program remains the same. Refer to the Maintain Your Certification Maintenance Fee lesson for more information.
